Saxophone player, improviser and composer, born in Buenos Aires to a Brazilian mother and a Jewish Argentinean father, Damián Birbrier grew up in the lush countryside of Southcentral Brazil where he began his musical practice within the rich local tradition of marching bands and popular local rhythms.
After completing his BA in popular Brazilian music specialized in saxophone at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp, Brazil), he moved to Montreal, Canada, to undertake a masters in musicology at Université de Montréal. Since his arrival in Montreal, he has expanded his horizons and collaborated with numerous local musicians and artists. He works as a saxophone player, composer, artistic director and music teacher while also developing his own artistic projects.
Damian's musical practice is focused on improvisation, interactions and collective creations. He seeks exchanges and creative experiences with artists from a variety of fields such as traditional Latin-American music, poetry, theater, dance, and visual arts.
