Águas
Águas is a live contemporary jazz recording shaped by listening,
musical dialogue, and interaction unfolding in the moment.
About the Recording
Águas documents a fully improvised live performance. Without predetermined structures, the music develops through attentive listening and shared intuition. Themes emerge, dissolve, and transform as the musicians respond to one another in the moment.
Rooted in Birbrier’s Brazilian formation and contemporary improvised practice, the trio’s approach centers on nuance, space, and collective interplay. The acoustic setting allows subtle shifts in texture and timing to guide the direction of the music.
Rather than presenting fixed compositions, Águas unfolds as a continuous exchange — a moment shaped by presence, interaction, and shared attention.
Media / PAN M 360
Águas was featured twice on PAN M 360, offering two complementary perspectives on the project. In an interview with Sandra Gasana, Damián Birbrier discusses the artistic process behind Águas, its relationship to improvisation, and the symbolic role of rivers and places in the music. The conversation connects the project to questions of existence, belonging, geography, memory, and personal trajectory, reflecting how each musician’s path contributes to the collective sound.
Later, in his review of the live album, Frédéric Cardin focuses on the trio’s musical dialogue, the narrative coherence of the improvisations, and the intimate, introspective character of the recording.
“Birbrier et ses amis nous racontent de belles histoires, inventées et mêmes vécues sur le moment même, mais dans une cohérence narrative et une logique dialectique impeccables. En plus, ils font tout cela en s’évertuant à créer de la beauté, de la douceur et de l’élégance.”
“Un grand bravo, et une très belle surprise d’un artiste que plusieurs découvriront pour la première fois.”
